It is with gratitude and sincere appreciation that I acknowledge the people who were instru-
mental in moving this book project toward its completion. To my editor, Suzanne Barchers, who
continues to support and pull out yet another book from me when I think I can't possibly have any
more ideas skating around in that roller rink I call a brain, I thank you. You are a consummate pro-
fessional and a good friend, and I so value both sides of that coin.
To my university students, too many to count, who continue to keep me present and grounded
and aware that we learn from the heart as well as from the head, and especially to the Praxis stu-
dents, many of whom allowed me to use their ideas on photography for this book, I salute you and
honor your decision to become teachers. May your beacons light the way for those children who
have lost theirs.
To my university colleagues Margaret, Peggy, Sally, Linda, and of course Emilie and Pat, who
seamlessly perpetuate the notion that what I do and how I do it is worthy and will, in the long run,
reap a harvest for which many children will benefit, I am eternally grateful to work in your circle.

dards that I used as guides for keeping me on track in the curricular arena.
