Omnibus
I decided to call this temari Omnibus because there are so many
different shapes used in stitching this temari. It is not an easy temari to
plot. I have drawn 2 diagrams.
30 cm mari;
Less then a skein each of:
2 shades of blue, purple, off white, 3 shades of brown, thin gold
metallic for marking.
Mark and tack a C10 with thin gold metallic.

Step 1: Locate 2 pentagons: layer 2 open kite shapes 1.2 cm in from the edge (see the red lines in diagram 1). Stitch 6 rows of
light blue, 2 rows of dark blue and 2 rows of light blue. Add more rows of light blue if needed to fill in to the edge of the
pentagons.
Look at diagram 2. At the top of your kite shapes you will see a 4 part diamond. On the other side of that diamond, repeat step
1. Do not stitch into the diamond. It will be filled in with the wrap.
Step 2: 4 Fan shapes: See diagram 1. The fan shapes take up 4 parts of a 10-part pentagon. Add a burst of metallic threads in
the 4 sections that touch the kite shape from the center to the edge of the pentagon. Add red pearl cotton straight stitches
between the metallic lines.
Step 3: Wrap: . Look at diagram 2 carefully. The wrap starts at the center of the pentagon with the fan shape. This is an X
shaped wrap; the center, where the wrap crosses over is a diamond not a square.
Place keeper pins at the base of your fan point. Use your middle shade of brown to do your first row of the wrap. Be careful to
cross your thread X in the middle of the diamond between your kite shapes. Groom as you go and continue wrapping,
alternating sides, one row at a time until your diamond is 1.5 cm wide, about 15 rows. Change to the lightest shade of brown
and wrap 6 rows on each side. Change to dark brown and wrap 3 rows on each side. The sides of your X wrap should touch or
nearly touch the sides of your Blue kite. Anchor your wrap at the base of your fan shapes by wrapping the group tightly with
dark brown perle.
Step 4: Arrowheads: Look at diagram 2, the overlapping arrowheads are place in the empty area between the legs of the X
wrap. Place your first row 2cm in from the edge of your wrap. Stitch 3 rows of dark brown, 2 rows of off white, 3 to 5 rows of
purple leaving enough room to finish with 2 rows of off white.
Step 5: Stitch a red kiku inside your blue kite shapes.
