Gerda Stole
Measurements: about 16” x 50” in cobweb weight yarn but I blocked very hard! It will
obviously knit bigger in lace weight, or you can always add some extra repeats.
Yarn: 50g 720yards (it actually took 42g) Cecilia Cobweb weight yarn (50% cashmere /
50% silk) in raspberry from Posh yarn.
Needles: 2.00mm/US0 (if you decide to use lace weight yarn instead I’d probably go for
3.5mm/US4 circular needles 80cm (32”)
RS or WS: right side or wrong side
pm: place marker
Main panel:
Using an invisible cast-on method, cast on 77 stitches. Purl 1 row. Reading Chart 1 right
to left, and purling all ws rows and adding a garter-stitch border of 4 stitches on each side
of the charted pattern, work repeat 6 times. Transfer stitches to waste yarn
Yarn over border:
Pick up and knit 240 stitches along one of the long edges. Knit across short edge stitches
(317 stitches in total). Pick up 240 stitches along 2 nd long edge (557 stitches in total).
Knit across 2 nd short edge stitches (634 stitches in total).
Join into round by knitting first picked-up stitch. Place a marker to indicate the beginning
of the round. k238, pm, k2, pm, knit into front and back of next stitch, k37, knit into front
and back of next stitch, k35, knit into front and back of next stitch , pm, k2, pm, k238,
pm, k2, pm, knit into front and
back of next stitch, k37, knit into
front and back of next stitch,
k35, knit into front and back of
next stitch , pm, k2. Work the
following rows:
Rnd 1: *YO, k2, [YO, k2tog] to
marker, YO, k2, repeat from *
Rnd 2: knit - 240 sts between
long side markers; 80 sts
between short side markers.
Rnd 3: YO, *knit to next
marker, YO, k2, YO, repeat
from *
Rnd 4: knit - 242 sts between
long side markers; 82 sts
between short side markers.
Break yarn.

away from corners so there are four stitches between markers at each corner.
Invisibly cast on 7 stitches work the first two rows of the chart THESE ARE NOT PART
OF THE 16 ROW REPEAT. Beginning at the first stitch after a corner, work Chart 2 (16
row repeat) 30 times over long sides and 10 times over short sides. Work one whole
repeat of the edging at each corner (attach edging to each of the four corner stitches
twice). The wrong side should be facing when the border is attached via ssk.
When all the stitches have been used p and edging is complete, break yarn and leave
stitches on holder. Use a tapestry needle to graft the ends of the edging together.
Wash in cool water and leave to soak for about an hour. Block FIRMLY by pinning out
to shape and allow to dry completely.
