power users make the most of the DVD

GNU m4 Macro Processor
The GNU m4 is an implementation of the
traditional Unix macro processor. It is
mostly SVR4 compatible although it has
some extensions (for example, handling
more than 9 positional parameters to
macros). GNU m4 also has built-in func-
tions for including files, running shell
commands, doing arithmetic, etc.
GNU m4 is a macro processor in the
sense that it copies its input to the out-
put expanding macros as it goes. Macros
are either built-in or user-defined and
can take any number of arguments.
Besides just doing macro expansion, m4
has functions for including named files,
running UNIX commands, doing integer
arithmetic, manipulating text in various
ways, recursion etc… m4 can be used
either as a front-end to a compiler or as a
macro processor in its own right.
VPN Security
Virtual Private Networks rely on privacy.
If they are insecure, businesses could be
harmed or even fail. Giving all of your
data to unknown agent is not wise.
Even though we are using public net-
works such as the Internet, we have the
technology to lock down the security
and safeguard the information.
There are quite a number of Open
Source VPN applications around, but
how secure are they really? In practice
there’s a lot more to creating a secure
VPN than simply bolting some Blowfish
encryption and RSA key exchange onto a
network socket. We look at some com-
mon pitfalls that can occur when
creating VPN implementations, and the
recommendations for those wanting to
create VPN software or add VPN func-
tionality to an existing application.
