All seven CPUs of the SIMATIC® S7-400 range offer three times the processing power and 50 %
more communications power of the predecessor models. Complex arithmetic commands are pro-
cessed up to seventy times faster. And thanks to upward compatibility, you can use the new CPUs
immediately – without having to adapt your existing user programs or design documentation.

mized both for manufacturing and
process engineering. That’s why our
high-performance PLC can be used
system-wide for all areas of the pro-
duction chain. Our range encom-
passes seven graded CPUs, allowing
you to implement solutions that are
perfectly tailored to the sub-tasks in
hand. Thanks to a huge increase in
performance power, the new CPUs
also enable the integration of new
functions and higher machine cycle

ware costs.

with integral 4-port switch, the higher
data throughput supports powerful
vertical integration and high-speed
PLC-PLC communication via PROFINET/
Industrial Ethernet. The field level too
is efficiently connected: halved res-
ponse times enable shorter cycles
down to 1 ms in isochrone operation,
in order, for example, to control fast
running machines via PROFIBUS.
More memory,
timers and counters
Along with their high processing and
communications power, our CPUs
feature impressive work memories,
increased to a maximum of twenty
megabytes. The number of available
timers and counters is now so high on
all CPUs as to be sufficient for any
application in any case. You can exploit
this increase in power to give your
programs a modular structure, or to
equip your machines and plants with
additional functions for, say, acquiring
and archiving quality data, perform-
ing user-friendly process diagnostics,
or integrating into higher-level MES
solutions (manufacturing execution
systems).
