ÐAre you sure you want to do this?Ñ
Nick looked up and gave Luka a cocky grin. ÐIÓm
not worried about the pain, if thatÓs what youÓre asking.Ñ
Luka shook his head and stepped closer to the
portable table NickÓs tattoo artist, Jos, had set up in their
living room a few minutes before. Nick had stripped off his
shirt and was in the middle of getting situated while Jos
checked the rest of his supplies. The first Die Hard movie
waited in their Blu-Ray player to be turned on once the
tattooing got started. Luka would be there to distract Nick
for at least part of the time as well, but he was getting more
and more nervous about the whole thing. He never wanted
this to be something Nick regretted.
ÐNo.Ñ Luka ran his fingers along the edge of the
stencil Jos had applied to the left side of NickÓs ribcage. ÐI
didnÓt think you would be.Ñ He got to the bottom of NickÓs
ribs and changed direction, skimming across the flatness of
NickÓs abdomen to his right hip where the edge of NickÓs
red and orange dragon tattoo peeked out from the
waistband of his steel-colored track pants.
Luka had spent a lot of time focused on that tattoo
since theyÓd gotten togetherÏlicking, biting, tracing it with
his fingertips. It was his favorite, mostly because of its
location. NickÓs hipbones were one of his hot spots and he
writhed and trembled whenever Luka lingered on them. But
the new tattoo, well, it would be one of the few Nick had
that actually meant something. That made it different from
so many of the others.
ÐI just want to know,Ñ Luka murmured, drawing his
index finger along the curve of the dragonÓs tail and
smiling briefly as Nick squirmed. ÐAre you sure you want
to get this tattoo for me?Ñ

Nick reached down to still his hand and lace their
fingers together. ÐWhy?Ñ Nick grinned again. ÐYou
planning on leaving me anytime soon?Ñ He said it jokingly,
but Luka didnÓt miss the flash of doubt that flitted across
his face. Nick tried to hide it, like he did with everything
that could make him seem insecure or vulnerable, but Luka
knew that aside from losing his brother, the only thing that
truly frightened Nick was the idea of losing Luka himself.
Luka leaned down and kissed him, a deep, hard kiss
that might have led to something more if Jos hadnÓt been
sitting in the room. Nick didnÓt have anything to worry
about. Despite their ups and downs, Luka could never walk
away from Nick again. The first time had almost killed
him. Just the memory of it was enough to make his stomach
churn. ÐIÓm not going anywhere. I just want you to be
sure.Ñ
NickÓs hand came up to cradle the back of his head,
holding Luka close when Luka would have straightened.
ÐIÓm so sure I canÓt even tell you how fucking sure I am.
You know me. IÓm notÈ IÓm not good at all that romantic
shit. I canÓt do rings or a wedding. This tattoo, itÓs my
promise. My forever promise. To you.Ñ
LukaÓs eyes burned and he kissed Nick again,
softer, his mouth trembling. ÐI love you.Ñ
Nick kissed him back, long and slow, seemingly
oblivious to JosÓs silent presence. It still amazed Luka that
Nick didnÓt care who saw them anymore, didnÓt mind the
general public knowing about their relationship. Nick had
come so far, changed so much, since that first day Luka
saw him at Glenwood. Yet, heÓd stayed Nick in every way
that truly mattered.
When Nick finally let him pull away, Luka was
flushed and shaky, his lips tingling. Nick smirked, which
made Luka waver between wanting to punch him in
frustration or kiss him again. Over and over again. Dammit.
Nick knew exactly what those kisses did to him.
