A Twilight Fan Fiction Story
Summary
Edward and Bella are working on building up his tolerance and control before the wedding, and
Bella learns what it means to live with a family that has no secrets.
Chapter 1.
Light streamed through the windows and onto the floorboards when I woke up in the morning. I
was groggy and fighting consciousness--a product of the lack of sleep from the night before. My
legs fidgeted under the covers restlessly as I tried unsuccessfully to fall back asleep. There would
be no more rest for me today.
The night before seemed almost like a dream; Charlie neither had a heart attack or actually shot
Edward much to my surprise. All in all the reaction was much better than anything I had dared to
hope for. Now I simply had one more hurdle to face. Telling my mom. Charlie had only relented
last night because he was certain that Renee‟s objections would be enough to stymie the wedding
and put things on hold. Although he was probably right about her impending reaction, the wedding
would go ahead as planned anyway.
There was too much at stake to delay. My mortal days were dwindling to a close and the wedding
was an essential part of the compromise that I had made with Edward to get the promise of
forever fulfilled.
A cool hand ran down my arm to my restless leg and held it still. I looked up to see Edward,
my
fiancé
, smiling down at me.
“Up so soon?” he asked.
“I can‟t sleep,” I sighed.
„You didn‟t get much sleep last night,” he murmured to me; his voice low but still with a smile in it.
I blushed deeply at his words remembering just how little sleep I‟d had. Charlie‟s acceptance of our
plan to marry had elated Edward and he had carried his joy with him when he‟d returned to my
room after taking his Volvo home. He hadn‟t been as cautious as usual…much to my delight…when
he‟d held me in his arms. His kisses and been deeper, and his touches more meaningful as we‟d
snuggled with each other in my small bed.
I felt his lips caress my forehead, and then he began kissing me softly down the side of my face
working his way toward my lips. My pulse raced in my veins bringing me to full consciousness. His
arms wound around me holding me closer to him.
“Hmmmm….” I sighed.
“What should we do today?” he asked as his lips moved to my throat. It was hard to think of
appropriate suggestions while he was touching me. I had to fight my urges to give him a response.
“Something more frightening than what we did yesterday I‟m afraid.” I answered hesitantly.
“More frightening?” he asked as he pulled his head up to look at me.
“I have a phone call to make to Florida.”
“I think you are worrying too much about that,” he smiled at me. “It will go better than you think.”
“Did Alice tell you that?” I asked.
“She didn‟t have to,” Edward answered simply. I stared at him looking deeply into his eyes for an
answer. “Renee has actually been expecting this phone call since April,” he said smugly.
“What?” I asked stunned.
“You didn‟t get your silent mind from her,” he answered. “When we went to visit her, I was able to
hear her thoughts quite clearly. Charlie is actually much more difficult to make out than she is,
although he‟s getting easier,” he mused.
“So what was she thinking in April that you didn‟t fill me in on? And why didn‟t you tell me at the
time?” I demanded, a little petulant now. He smiled at my frustration.
“When we went to visit her she assumed that we were already engaged, and you were waiting to
tell her because you were afraid of her reaction. She felt a little bad about it; she was trying to get
you to tell her when you went for a walk that morning,” he chuckled. “She‟s probably been
expecting this call ever since then; a little afraid that we would get married without bothering to
tell her, even though she knows that you are far braver than that…even if she doesn‟t completely
understand the extent of your bravery. I still don‟t completely understand that myself.”
“Bravery?” I asked, confused.
“You‟re engaged to marry a vampire who you allow dangerously close to you. You run off at a
moments notice to Italy to save that same vampire from the largest non-vegetarian coven in
existence. You keep company with werewolves without fear…need I go on?”
“Please don‟t.” I said, blushing. “So you didn‟t answer the second part of my question. Why didn‟t
you tell me what my mom was thinking back in April?”
“I didn‟t want to put you more off the idea of marriage than you already were,” he said a little
sadly as he picked up my left hand and kissed it. He looked down at it now, at the ring on my
finger as he continued. “You still don‟t seem entirely convinced. If you don‟t want to go though with
it, I‟ll respect that decision.”
“I‟ve already said yes.” I responded; a little startled by the direction that the conversation had
gone.
“Saying yes and meaning yes are two different things. I don‟t want to force you into this. It isn‟t
too late to back out,” he said, still looking down.
I saw the sadness in his expression and it felt like my heart would break. I couldn‟t believe that he
doubted me, but when I looked back on our conversations over the last couple months since he‟d
first asked me to be his wife, I could see just how my words would have planted those seeds of
doubt in his head. They wounded him, though until now he hadn‟t shown it.
I put my hand under his chin pulling his eyes up to mine. They were flat black, but still containing
so much emotion that I could see the pain in them, the uncertainty.
“I meant what I said. It was more than a word to me, and I‟m ready now. I want to marry you. I
want to spend eternity by your side. You are my soul mate, I suppose that‟s why marriage may
have seemed a little silly to me at first because in a way I feel like I‟m married to you already, and
that goes deeper than words and vows.”
“Really?”
“Of course. Isn‟t it like that for you?”
“Absolutely,” he said as he leaned in to kiss me again.
His lips against mine were very serious but very gentle, conveying his emotions in a way that
words could not. I put my arms around his neck and pulled myself closer to him, knowing that he
would probably pull away any moment. But his lips lingered, and for once
he
pressed himself
against
me
. My breathing accelerated as the gentle kiss transformed into something else entirely.
His lips parted a little and I could taste his sweet breath in my mouth, my skin warmed as his cool
hands began to cautiously explore my body.
My thoughts were a jumble as I felt his breath speed up and his hands tighten on me ever so
slightly. He kept going; far beyond anything that I expected and in my excitement I began to get a
little dizzy.
He pulled away and looked at me with burning eyes. We stared at each other for a long moment,
and then he removed his hands.
“Sorry about that, I got a little carried away,” he said with his crooked smile.
“You know,” I breathed. “It‟s probably a good idea at this point.”
“Bella,” he warned, a little disapproval in his tone.
“I‟m serious,” I insisted. “The wedding will be here before you know it. A little practice makes a lot
of sense.”
„Oh really?” he said, exasperated. “Bella…I just don‟t know.”
“No way! Yesterday you practically attacked me in the meadow and now you want to back out?
Edward!”
“It‟s a good thing you stopped me yesterday. Bella, you really don‟t understand how dangerous this
is.”
“Edward, I trust you. You need to start trusting yourself.”
He started to argue and I put my finger against his lips to stop him.
“Do you remember the first day in the meadow? How hard it was for you to kiss me then?” His
eyes narrowed a bit as he nodded. “It isn‟t that hard for you anymore is it? In fact you can spend a
lot of time kissing me now can‟t you? Why do you think that is?”
“It isn‟t that easy Bella,” he frowned at me. “But I suppose the difference has to do with two
things. Familiarity of course being one of them,” he leaned in to kiss me again quickly. “And,
knowing how painful it is to lose you,” he shuddered.
“Well familiarity can help here too don‟t you think?” I smirked at him. I could see that he was
trying to argue with me, but my reasoning on this point seemed pretty sound to me. I could see
from the look on his face that the logic registered with him as well.
“I suppose,” he said warily. His fingers tracing my face as his expression softened slightly. I smiled
at him and reached up to touch his face as well. He cupped his hand under my chin and leaned in
to kiss me again.
“I don‟t know what to do,” he admitted.
“Well….you have human instincts. What do you
feel
like doing?” I asked slyly.
He laughed then. “I probably shouldn„t tell you that.”
“Why not?”
“Because then we might both get carried away,” he leered at me.
“Tempting,” I murmured against his neck
“Very,” he breathed. Then he composed himself. “But not a good idea right now. I think you should
get dressed and call your mom.”
“What are you going to do?” I asked.
He looked at me a little dubiously “If you want any more practice then I need to go over to the
park for a couple of hours.”
I reached up to trace the dark circles under his eyes, realizing how bad the thirst was for him; and
how much my nearness must make his throat burn right now.
“I‟ll be back soon,” he promised before leaning down again to kiss me softly one last time. He
smiled at me before launching himself out of the window.

It had been a long morning without Edward. As predicted, Renee hadn‟t had a problem with the
fact that I was getting married. In fact she told me with much eagerness that she would be calling
Esme to make plans as soon as she was off the phone with me. I was sure that Charlie would be a
little miffed when he heard about that. I tried to occupy my time to keep myself from going crazy,
after doing the laundry and cleaning the house, I was left with too much time on my hands to dwell
on the wedding.
I knew that I wanted Edward forever, and marriage really wasn‟t the problem. I could never
imagine marrying anyone but Edward. I just really wished that I didn‟t have the wedding part to
endure.
Ugh! I could just imagine Alice‟s idea of what a wedding should be like. If the graduation party was
any indication it would be completely overdone, and I was going to be thrust into the spotlight.
Forced to walk down the aisle in front of heaven knows how many people while trying not to trip on
my train and land flat on my face.
I picked up the newspaper hoping to distract myself from my growing panic. I only got to the first
page when there was a knock on the front door. I wasn‟t expecting anyone so I was a little
surprised when I opened the door to see Alice smiling at me.
“Hey Bella!” she said as she danced into the house, a large bulging bag on her shoulder.
“You knocked,” I said a little surprised. Alice had a tendency to materialize in the house without
any warning. The only time she ever knocked was when Charlie was home. I guess she didn‟t think
it was right to startle him half out of his wits.
“We have some plans to make,” she said clapping her dainty hands together and ignoring my sour
expression. She took my hand and pulled me into the kitchen.
“Wedding stuff?” I asked.
“Sort of,” she said winking at me. “I‟ll take care of most of it as promised. But I thought you might
want the opportunity to at least
look
at some of the options.”
“I‟ll pass.”
“Fine. But I think we should have a girls‟ trip to the city to do some „shopping‟.”
„Alice. I‟m really not much of a shopper,” I insisted. As she glowered at me I tried to appease her a
little. “After all, you really have much more of a talent for these kinds of things than I could ever
hope to. I know that I can trust you with everything.”
She seemed a bit mollified by this, but was still insistent. “I still think we should get out of town.”
“What are you up to?” I asked, suspicious now.
