Introduction

Q1. What is Phone Software Update?
The phone's software is a program to control the phone hardware. It is a kind of operating system and also known as a firmware. With Phone Software Update, users are able to update their phone software directly via the Internet. By simply installing and running NPS (New PC Studio) to their PC, user phones connected to the PC can have their software updated to be up-to-date.

Q2. Is Phone Software Update necessary?
By updating your phone software to the latest version, you are privileged to additional functions as well as your phone being optimized to be up-to-date.

Q3. How frequently does my phone software need to be updated?
In order to maintain your phone to its latest version, we recommend you to regularly check for a new version once every two months. If you are running NPS on a PC, you are automatically informed by the Tool tip of any updates on the phone software.

 

Q4. What PC specifications are required to use the Update service?
Supported Windows OS versions - Windows 2000, XP, Vista
NPS must be installed
Phone model that supports Phone Software Update service is required
PC connection via USB data cable required
Fully charged phone battery required
Internet connection required 

 

 

Running Software Updater

 

Q5. I successfully installed NPS. How do I run it?
In order to upgrade your phone, firstly run NPS. Then you need to click the Software Updater menu in the NPS launcher.

Q6. What kind of devices are used to connect the PC with a phone supporting Software Updater?
Phone software can only be updated by connecting the phone to a PC with NPS using an USB data cable. Devices other than the USB data cable such as Bluetooth, IrDA and Serial Cable are not supported.

 

Q7. Can user data such as the Phonebook, SMS, Multimedia files, other data and also additional applications installed to the phone be deleted when the phone software is updated?
According to the update coverage of the software patch on each phone model, user data may be affected. To avoid losing valuable user data, the updater will inform you to backup your data before updating the phone software.
To backup user data, we recommend using NPS.
NPS allows you to back up data stored in phone menus, such as Phonebook, Organiser, SMS, MMS and Multimedia, to PC and to restore the backup data to a phone of the same model. But, The DRM files will be deleted without saving due to its copyright.

 

 

Trouble Shooting

 

Q8. Phone Software Update was terminated abnormally and the phone does not function normally. What could be the problem?
Please reboot your phone and run Phone Software Update again. In case the phone does not reboot, turn on the phone after removing and inserting the battery.
When your phone does not work properly after an updating failure, recovery mode is provided to recover a phone from errors caused by incomplete software update.
If you close this window and run Phone Software Update, then the recovery mode will appear.

Q9. My phone does not operate normally after I ran Recovery Mode. What could be the problem?
Recovery Mode is provided to recover phones from errors caused by incomplete software update. If the phone is not completely recovered by recovery mode, please consult Samsung authorized service. 

Q10. My phone stopped working during an update, what should I do?

  Please visit one of our service centers.

Q11. Why has my device security code changed after updating?

This update clears all your data, included your changed security code. The default code will now be in place again.
