My background is hand painted using watercolour
paints. Other methods to try are shades of overlapping
mulberry paper, or paper which has bands of colour.
Materials Required:
Bockingford watercolour paper 12cm x 17cm.
Watercolour paints: Blue, Orange and Yellow.
Black sticky backed velour 12cm x 15cm.
Paintbrush.
Tracing paper and pencil.
Double sided tape: ADH13.
Card mount: AP02U-59, Natural White.
To Make The Card:
Paint the watercolour paper with a wash of plain
water to prepare it for painting.
Actual Size
Lightly paint small amount of blue at
the top of the paper mixing with a little
water towards the lower edge.
Mix some yellow with water to get
a very light colour and paint below the
blue merging the two naturally where
they meet.
Gradually add more yellow to the mix
to make a stronger colour as you work
down. Approximately half way down the
paper, start adding orange paint to the
yellow, getting stronger as you continue
down. Leave the background aside to dry.
Trace the giraffes and base from the
diagram. Place the tracing face down on
the back of the velour sheet and retrace
over the lines to transfer the design. Cut
out the giraffes and base.
Peel off the backing from the velour
and stick the design onto the painted
background sheet.
Mount the design and stick the card
closed using double sided tape or P.V.A.
adhesive if you prefer.
