Wr e a t h s & Hearts

The wreath or heart can be removed from the
card and used as a hanging decoration for the
following Christmas. The wreaths in particular
look very pretty on the Christmas tree.
The wreaths and hearts have many similarities
but some instructions need to be separate. So I
have split them into two sections with the main
instructions in the wreath part.
Wreath Materials:
1 Metre of 10mm wide ribbon.
30cm Length of 3mm ribbon in a
co-ordinating colour.
Sewing thread to match ribbon colour.
20cm P.V.C. Coated garden wire.
Plastic or sequin Holly leaves and berries.
Craft knife.
White card 8cm x 8cm.
7cm Length of Gold bead string.
UHU All purpose adhesive.
Double sided tape.
Card mount: SF03U Deep Green.
To Make The Card:
Cut the 10mm ribbon into two 50cm lengths
and place together with wrong sides facing.
Using a double length of matching thread work
a line of running stitches all along one edge of
the ribbons. Leave the end unfastened as it will
be used to gather the ribbon.
Gather the
ribbon tube by
gently pulling
the threads
until the tube
is just a little
shorter than
the coated
wire.
Insert the
wire into the
ribbon tube
until the end
sticks out.
Bend the
wire to form
a hoop. Twist
the ends
together.
Starting from the same end as before, work a
row of running stitches along the other edge of
the ribbons and leave the end unfastened. You
should now have a ribbon tube.

Bend the

wire until they
lay flat against
the hoop.
Stitch the
ribbon ends
together using
the gathering
threads, this
stitching will
be covered by
the beads.
onto the card mount keeping the top and side
borders even in size. The ribbons should be
left to hang down loosely not glued or taped
to the card. Trim the ends to length with a
diagonal snip.
Lift the wreath and place a sticker greeting
onto the centre of the white card.
Cut approximately 20cm from the 3mm
ribbon. Find the centre of the ribbon by folding it
in half and stitch it by the centre, to the top of the
hoop. This will
be the back of
the wreath,
leave the rib-
bon ends loose.
Use the
leftover 3mm
ribbon to make
two small
loops which
can be glued
or stitched
onto the lower
curve of the
hoop at the front. Fold the bead string in half
and stitch onto the wreath. Glue the leaves and
berries onto the wreath covering the ends of the
ribbon loops and the join on the gathered ribbon.
Once the glue has dried, lay the wreath
centrally onto the square of white card and mark
the position of the hanging ribbon. Remove the
wreath and using the craft knife, cut a 5mm
horizontal slot at the mark.
Thread both ends of the ribbon into the slot
and pull through until the wreath lays against
the card. Use a
little tape on
the back of the
card to hold
the ribbons in
place.
The ends
of the ribbon
should be
showing below
the panel of
card. Glue or
tape the panel
Above: This card has been made using a strip of
coloured fabric instead of ribbon and a lace trim
(see the heart instructions for adding lace). As
you can see, the holly and berries look just as
good in sequins if you cannot find beads.
Heart Card
Heart Materials:
1 Metre of 10mm wide White ribbon.
Half a metre of lace.
30cm Length of 3mm White ribbon.
White sewing thread.
20cm P.V.C. Coated garden wire.
20cm Pearl bead string.
20cm Silver bead string.
White ribbon Rose.
2 Small Silver heart stickers.

Heart Materials Continued:
Silver card 8cm x 8cm.
Craft knife.
1 Sticky fixer pad.
UHU All purpose adhesive.
Double sided tape.
Card mount: SF03U Smooth White.
To Make The Card:
Cut the ribbon in half, place the two halves
together and stitch along one edge in the same
way as detailed for the wreath. Insert the lace
between the two layers of ribbon with the edge
showing and stitch through all three layers along
the second edge of ribbon.
Gather the ribbon and insert then bend the
ends of the wire as described in the wreath
instructions. Stitch the ends of the ribbon to-
gether using the gathering threads.
Bend the wire into a heart shape with the join
at the dip in the top centre of the heart.
I prefer to hold the trimmings in place with
stitches but, UHU will do the job if desired.
Begin with three loops of silver beads, then three
loops of pearl beads, then add the rose in the
centre of them.
In the same way as described for the wreath:
Stitch the 3mm ribbon onto the dip at the top
centre of the heart. Position the heart centrally on
the silver card, mark and cut a slot for the ribbon.
Thread the ends into the slot, pull through and
tape.
Cut the sticky fixer into four pieces and place
one onto each corner on the back of the silver
card. Peel off the backing and position the design
onto the card as before. Trim the ribbon tails and
stick a tiny heart onto the end of each. Tiny
hearts are on many different Gold Label sheets.
