Compliment and complement
a. Compliment an expression of praise, commendation, or admiration: A sincere compliment boosts one's morale.
b. Complement – something that completes or makes perfect: A good wine is a complement to a good meal.
Definite and definitive
a. Definite – clearly defined or determined; not vague or general; fixed; precise; exact: a definite quantity; definite directions.
b. Definitive – most reliable or complete, as of a text, author, criticism, study, or the like: the definitive biography of Andrew Jackson.
Affect and Effect
a. Affect – to act on; produce an effect or change in: Cold weather affected the crops
b. Effect – something that is produced by an agency or cause; result; consequence: Exposure to the sun had the effect of toughening his skin.
Fewer and Less
a. Fewer – of a smaller number: fewer words and more action (used with a plural verb)
b. Less – a compare of little with least as superl. to a smaller extent, amount, or degree: less exact.
Expand and Expend
a. Expand – to increase in extent, size, volume, scope, etc.: Heat expands most metals. He hopes to expand his company.
b. Expend – to pay out; disburse; spend. To use up: She expended energy, time, and care on her work.
a. Continual – of regular or frequent recurrence; often repeated; very frequent: Continual bus departures.
b. Continuous – uninterrupted in time; without cessation: Continuous coughing during the concert
Dose and Doze
a. Dose – a quantity of medicine prescribed to be taken at one time.
b. Doze – to sleep lightly or fitfully.
