Materials Required:
Dreamweaver stencils: STE039 and STE070.
Parchment paper: TR003.
Masking tape.
Wa x e d paper.
Old newspapers and a sheet of plain paper.
Fine and medium embossing tools.
Coloured backing paper (optional).
Double sided tape: ADH13 or Spray mount.
Card mount to fit the stencil.
To Make The Cards:
Place the stencil right side up on the work
surface with the tracing paper on top, use small
pieces of masking tape along the edges to keep
them together.
following the lines on the stencil and outline
edges of any areas. For small open areas use
the medium tool to gently emboss the whole
area. Leave large open areas unfilled.
Rub the surface of the tracing paper with
waxed paper to help the tool slide easily when
stencilling. If you don’t have waxed paper, take
a piece of plain paper and a white candle. Rub
the candle over the paper so some of the wax is
transferred then use this as the waxed paper.
Usually with stencilling you need to work
over a light box as you can’t see the stencil
through the paper while embossing but as you
are stencilling onto tracing paper you will be
able to see through without the light box.
First use the fine embossing tool to outline all
the areas and for any lines. Place the end of the
tool onto the tracing and apply gentle pressure

Guidelines For Mounting:
If you are using an aperture card
the best method is double sided tape
just outside the aperture area, use a
coloured background paper behind the
work if the card is pale or the design
will not show up well.
For cards with no aperture spray
mount is best, this will change the look
of the tracing paper but gives an even
covering behind the design, if you try
to use tape it may show through the
tracing in patches and spoil your work.
Ideally use the spray mount out-
side, if this is not possible work in a
well ventilated area and protect your
furniture and fabrics with old newspa-
pers. Tape a piece of plain paper on top
so the newsprint does not come off on
your work. I put a little
blu tack on each corner
of the work and press
it gently onto the paper
to hold it still whilst
I spray.
I have used the
Nouveau Flowers sten-
cil to make all but the
heart card. Using
different bits of the
stencil has added
variety to the cards
and the addition of
alphabet letters in a
similar style helps
to personalise them.
The main picture
uses the complete
Nouveau Flowers
stencil, I then cut
carefully round the
edges. It is stuck
onto an SF03U card
using spray mount.
When making the
bookmark I found
the centre portion of
the stencil fitted just
nicely into the aper-
ture leaving a space
to add the recipients
initial for a more
personal touch.
Above: This design is made up from the
outer flowers on the stencil without the top,
upright part. I have added an alphabet letter
for the personal touch again. Any single letter
could be inserted or use a slightly bigger card
and fit in two letters.
Below: As valentines day is coming up why
not try a heart stencil. This design is mounted
onto the card with just a tiny touch of glue
along the very edges.
