PREFER (mówiąc ogólnie o tym co wolimy)

 

·        I prefer sth to sth else.

( I prefer wine to beer.)

·        I prefer doing sth to doing sth else.

( I prefer writing to speaking.)

·        I prefer to do sth rather than (do) sth else.

(I prefer to drive rather than travel by plane.)

(I prefer to live in the country rather than(live) in a city.)

 

WOULD PREFER (mówiąc o tym co wolelibyśmy w konkretnej sytuacji)

I would prefer= I’d prefer

 

·        I’d prefer to do sth.

(I’d prefer to go now.)

·        I’d prefer not to do sth.

(I’d prefer not to go there now.)

·        Id prefer to do sth rather than do sth else.

(I’d prefer to stay at home tonight rather than go to the cinema.)

·        I’d prefer somebody to do sth.

(I’d prefer you/him/her to pay me now.

·        I’d prefer somebody not to do sth.

( I’d prefer them not to paint my room.)

 

 

WOULD RATHER = would prefer

 

·        I’d rather do sth than do sth else.

( I’d rather fly than go by plane.)

·        I’d rather not do sth.

( I’d rather not go out this evening.)

·        Id rather somebody did sth.

( I’d rather you went home.)

·        I’d rather somebody didn’t do sth.

      (I’d rather he didn’t spend all his money in pubs.)
