About This Lab Manual
This is the only authorized Lab Manual for the Cisco Networking Academy CCNP version 6
SWITCH course
A CCNP certiication equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to plan,
implement, secure, maintain, and troubleshoot converged enterprise networks. The CCNP
certiication requires candidates to pass three 120-minute exams—ROUTE #642-902,
SWITCH #642-813, and TSHOOT #642-832—that validate the key competencies of
network engineers.
The Cisco Networking Academy curriculum consists of three experience-oriented
courses that employ industry-relevant instructional approaches to prepare students
for professional-level jobs: CCNP ROUTE: Implementing IP Routing, CCNP SWITCH:
Implementing IP Switching, and CCNP TSHOOT: Maintaining and Troubleshooting IP
Networks.
CCNP SWITCH: Implementing IP Switching
This course teaches students how to implement, monitor, and maintain switching in
converged enterprise campus networks. Students will learn how to plan, conigure, and
verify the implementation of complex enterprise switching solutions. The course also
covers the secure integration of VLANs, WLANs, voice, and video into campus networks.
Comprehensive labs emphasize hands-on learning and practice to reinforce coniguration
skills.

Command Syntax Conventions
The conventions used to present command syntax in this book are the same conventions
used in the IOS Command Reference. The Command Reference describes these
conventions as follows:
• Boldface indicates commands and keywords that are entered literally as shown. In
actual coniguration examples and output (not general command syntax), boldface
indicates commands that are manually input by the user (such as a show command).
• Italic indicates arguments for which you supply actual values.
• Vertical bars (|) separate alternative, mutually exclusive elements.
• Square brackets ([ ]) indicate an optional element.
• Braces ({ }) indicate a required choice.
• Braces within brackets ([{ }]) indicate a required choice within an optional element
