2.0  INSTALLATION NOTES
======================================================================

----------------------------------------------------------------------
2.1 Initial Installation
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are installing software on your PC for the fist time, follow
these steps:

1. Place diskette #1 in your floppy Drive.
2.   Click Start and Run.
3.   Type a:\setup.
4.   Click OK.

Note: If Windows 95 prompts you for the location of the modem files,
enter "A:\" in the field provided and select OK.

INSTALLING AN UPGRADE / REMOVING A PREVIOUS VERSION

If you have a previous version of the software on your PC, and you
want to upgrade/reinstall or remove it, follow these steps:

1. Place diskette #1 in your floppy Drive.
2.   Click Start and Run.
3.   Type a:\setup.
4.   Click OK.
5.   Follow the instructions provided.
6. When the software has completed removing the existing version, you
     will be prompted to upgrade your modem software.

     If you do not wish to upgrade at this time, when Windows 95 prompts
     you for the current driver of an "Unknown Device", select Next and
     then select Finish.

     If this is an upgrade, the install will reboot your PC, at which time
     you can continue the installation process. Follow the installation
     process to completion.

     Note: After the PC reboots, Windows 95 will display a message
            that it has found new hardware. The prompt asks you to
            insert the driver diskettes. You may then be prompted twice
            for the path of the driver diskettes. Please enter the same
            source path for the driver diskettes at each prompt.

NOTE: If you need to change the default country, run the Country Selection Application after installation and then reboot your system.
.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
2.2 Additional Installation Notes
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If a user has installed Windows 95 on a new hard disk, the modem will be
assigned as an "Unknown Device" in the Device Manager under the "Other
Devices" section.

1. Insert the first installation diskette in the A: drive.
2. Execute A:\SETUP from the "Run dialog panel."

    This will erase the "Unknown Device" (DSP device) from the Registry
    and cause the system to be rebooted.

3. As the system restarts, the DSP will be found as a new device and the
    installation will proceed as normal.

When refreshing a system that has the software installed, follow these
steps:

1. Insert the first installation diskette in the A: drive.
2. Execute A:SETUP from the "Run dialog panel."

    This will erase the DSP device from the Registry and cause the system
    to be rebooted.

3. As the system restarts, the DSP will be found as a new device and the
    installation will proceed as normal.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
2.3 Using the LAN Installation Feature in Windows 95
----------------------------------------------------------------------

To correctly perform a LAN install in Windows 95, use the following instructions:

o   Initial Setup:

	1. Create a directory structure to hold all the ThinkPad Modem diskettes.
	Copy the ThinkPad Modem source diskettes into the directory. One method is
	to use XCOPY with the /S switch.

	XCOPY A:\*.* /S x:\CIDROOT

	(Where x is the network drive where you will copy these files.)

	Important Note: There may be multiple copies of MWDSP437.INF on the
	diskettes. You must ensure that only the version that is on diskette 1
	is copied to x:\CIDROOT.

	2. Create a file named MW_CID.LST. Place this file into the root of the
	directory you created in Step 1. In this example, create the MW_CID.LST file
	in the x:\CIDROOT directory. This file will contain the automatic installation
	information needed to use the LAN installation feature. The MW_CID.LST file
	below contains the installation defaults, but you may modify them to change
	the destination of the software.
	Sample MW_CID.LST file:

	[INPUT]
	;Set all three of these to the same base directory
	DIR_Samples=C:\MWW
	BasePath=C:\MWW
	MIDISamplePath=C:\MWW

	; Do not touch these settings
	INSTALL=install
	DOSMIDI=no
	WINMIDI=no
	DisplayBootMsg=no

o   Windows 95 Installation Procedure:

	1. Go to the workstation where you want to install the ThinkPad Modem software.
	Select START and RUN. From the RUN window type:

 		x:\CIDROOT\SETUP.EXE

	(Where x:\CIDROOT\SETUP.EXE is the fully-qualified path to the shared disk
	where the installation files reside.)

	This will initiate the procedure to uninstall any older ThinkPad Modem software
	and prepare the system for the new software. This uninstall process is not CID
	enabled, so the user must manually confirm the removal of any software currently
	on the system. At the end of this part of the process, Setup will ask you to
	restart Windows 95.

	2. When Windows 95 restarts, the Add New Hardware Wizard will detect a new
	device and prompt you for a location to the device driver software. At this
	point you would enter:

		x:\CIDROOT

	3. The installation will proceed automatically. At the end of the installation,
	a message appears telling you that the install is completed. Press OK.
