House Gothic 23 Fonts Installation
These are basic instructions for installing and using your fonts. Please refer to www.houseindustries.com/support for more
detailed information. Also, each font kit comes with a .pdf file with detailed instructions, character reference and special feature
documentation. We recommend that you at least review these two sources of information so you can take full advantage of your
House Industries fonts.
Macintosh Postscript Instructions (Mac OS 8.1-9.2)
You must be running Adobe Type Manager for your fonts to work properly. You can download it from our web site for free by visiting:
www.houseindustries.com/support
Double click on the installer Icon and follow the prompts. This will copy the fonts onto your hard drive. At this point, If you are using third party font
management software please follow their instructions to install your fonts. Make sure you don’t have any applications open and that your System Folder
is closed. Drag the bitmap file (the little suitcase) and the printer font file (the thing with the House logo on it) of the fonts you wish to install and drop
them on top of your System Folder. Your Mac will tell you that it would like to put these in certain places; click on OK. The Macintosh System stores all of
your font files in a folder called “Fonts” inside your System Folder.
Macintosh OSX Postscript Instructions
Double click on the Installer Icon and follow the prompts. This will copy the fonts onto your hard drive. Simply copy the fonts to the “Fonts” folder inside
your “Library” folder. If you want your fonts to be available to applications running in “Classic” mode, copy install your fonts in the OS 9.1 System folder in
the “Fonts” folder. Fonts installed in the OS 9.1 System folder will also be available in OSX.
Windows 9x, Me Postscript Instructions
Double click on the installer Icon and follow the prompts. This will copy the fonts onto your hard drive. You must be running Adobe Type Manager on
your system for your fonts to work.
Windows 2000/Windows XP Postscript Instructions
If you are using Windows 2000 or XP, we recommend that you use the PostScript versions of our fonts. Installing them is easy:
Double click on the installer Icon and follow the prompts. When the installer asks you what format you want to install, select “PostScript”. This will copy
the fonts onto your hard drive (you can specify where you want the installer to put your fonts). Double click on the “Main” icon, then double click on the
“Control Panel” icon. Find the “Fonts” icon and double click on it. In the “Fonts” window, go to the “File” menu and select “Install New Font.” In the “Drive”
window, find the disk and directory that holds your fonts. Your fonts will appear in the “List of Fonts” menu. Click on the font names you wish to install,
then click on OK.
Windows 9x, Me, 2000 Truetype Instructions
House Industries font kits come with an installer that will automatically put your fonts where they need to go and they will be available immediately after
the installation routine ends.
Working with House Industries EPS Images
Most House Industries clip-art Images are supplied as separate vector line art files in eps format. They can be opened and edited in programs such as
Adobe Illustrator, Macromedia Freehand, and Corel Draw. They can also be placed as eps artwork in page layout
programs such as Quark and Adobe InDesign. We’ve supplied the files in this format to maintain the integrity of the line art.

Special and Alternate Characters
We have supplied special alternate characters in the PostScript
and TrueType Simian fonts to make it easier to access the alternate
characters. If you are using and OpenType-savvy application (at
release time, Adobe InDesign 1.5 or Adobe Photoshop 6), these
characters are accessed automatically if you install the OpenType
fonts supplied with your House Gothic 23 fonts.

allow access to some OpenType features. The House Gothic 23 fonts use
the “Ligatures” feature to automatically access the ligatures listed below. We
use the “Small Caps” feature to access the alternate caps.

3D Instructions
(Instructions are for Adobe Illustrator 7.0 to 10.0)
We’ve supplied the 3D styles of House Gothic 23 in two separate fonts (THRDFILL and THRDSHAD). Draw a text box to the approximate size
of the desired headline, change the font to THRDFILL and set the desired text. Next, go to the arrow tool and select the entire text box.
Copy (command-C) and “Paste in Back” (command-B). Change the font to THRDSHAD and set the desired shadow color. Using the arrow
tool select the top text box and set the THRDFILL to a contrasting color. Deselect and your House Gothic 23 3D setting should be ready.
