a question you’re usually too busy to consider: Why me? Why should
clients choose youas their photographer? What makes you different?
What sets you apart?
The No. 1 threat photographers feel these days is from the
amateur shooter sporting professional-level confidence. How do you
differentiate your business in a market where the gates of entry are
being stormed?
Portrait and wedding photographer Lissa Hatcher found a way:
“When one prospect Googled me and all my awards came up in the
search results, she called back and said, ‘It seems like everyone says
they’re a photographer these days, but you’re reallya photographer.
You are for real.’” Hatcher and her studio are among those profiled

As a consumer, I want the expertise of professionals to help me
make important decisions. So do most consumers. When I’m poring
over a seemingly endless catalog of options with no discerning
characteristics, I’m tempted to just close my eyes and point. And so
are those other consumers. They’re looking for professional
experience and guidance—let them know you’ve got it.
Enter those print competitions, get expert feedback, build your
confidence, collect merits toward earning PPA degrees—and I bet
you’ll pick up some very nice awards while you’re at it!
