Overall aims: To revise and broaden vocabulary connected with computer and the Internet through different exercises done in class and the Internet library.

Assumed knowledge: Students have already had a lesson connected with computers and technology and know a lot of vocabulary connected with this subject

The T asks Ss to open their books on page 70 and tell which of the web site is a shopping site , a travel site, and online auction site, an encyclopaedia, a film site. The T also asks if Ss know those sites and if there are any similar in Poland.

Ss may not know some of the web sites. The T should prompt them by giving Polish equivalents of those sites.

Presentation

The T gives Ss handouts with different parts of computer. Firstly, the T asks Ss to read the page 164 and then dot the exercise 81.1 and 81.3 from the page 165. Then the T asks Ss to read their answers one person by one

SS may be discouraged as they probably know most of the vocabulary and it can seem too easy for them. The T should walk around the class and observe if Ss don’t need help and work properly.

Presentation

The T gives Ss handouts with different parts of computer. Ss’ task is to put the numbers of the names of parts to the pictures of the parts of computer. The T checks the exercise altogether with the class.

Practice

The T plays a recording with dialogue of two people talking about computers. Ss’ task is to decide if the statements in ex 3 on page 70 are correct or incorrect. After the task T checks the answers altogether with the class.

To practise listening skill and to show the vocabulary used in context.

The T has to make sure that Ss are quiet enough so the T can play a recording. The T should play the dialogue twice or even three times if the Ss have problems with understanding.

Practice

T asks Ss to read a sentences and complete the dialogue in exercise 6 on page 71. The T checks the answers by asking Ss to read their answers one person by one, also giving the translation of the sentence.

Ss may be confused because they do not know some of the phrases. The T should walk around the class and if some S asks him for help, the T should give some hints to those sentences.

Practice

T gives Ss some more handouts the Internet abbreviations. Ss’ task is to match those abbreviations to their meaning. The T checks the exercise altogether with the class. The T also asks Ss if they know any more of the Internet abbreviations.

Ss may be too loud. The T should take care of the class if they are not quietly enough.

Practice

The T gives Ss another short handouts with multiple choice exercise. The T asks Ss to do quickly this exercise and then the T asks whole class for their answers.

Ss can be bored of another vocabulary exercise. The T should walk around the class and observe if Ss work properly.

 

Production

The T asks Ss to talk in pairs about how much time do they spend in front of a computer during the day. What do they usually do and if they think they spend too much time in front of the computer screen.

To let Ss use the vocabulary learnt in less controlled exercise.

Ss can speak in L1 instead of English. The T should walk around the class and recall Ss to speak L2 and also prompt them to think creatively.

Presentation

The T tells Ss to open the following websites on their computers (http://www.englishclub.com/vocabulary/computing.htm). The T reads the words and tells Ss to repeat the words after the T. Then The T asks Ss to read the definitions.
