Hi Staci,

welcome aboard.

On the subject of "Gypsy" or Romani combat, here's a copy of a post I
made on another forum two years ago -

----------------------------------------------------------------------
A few months ago I posted some information on the "Dyklo" fighting
I'd been shown by a New Caledonian of Romany descent, and promised to
post the technique list. Well, I've just found it hidden in an old
folder. Please note that I'm not at all sure of the provenance of
these techniques. My informant simply said that it was a traditional
form. I compiled this list after a demo session, and translated as
well as I could from the original French notes.

1 - Bahtalo drom ("lucky road") - approach from behind, arms crossed
so that the scarf forms a loop. Noose the enemy from the rear and
turn away so that his back is pressed into yours. Crouch down and
heave so that the enemy falls over your back.

2 - Drab da bavlo ("poisoned pig") - when the enemy holds you from
behind, hit back quickly with your elbow to the place where his ribs
meet in front.

3 - Shukar nak ("pretty nose") - with a cudgel, hit to the enemy's
hand to make him drop his knife. Then hit across the nose, as you
would with a hammer.

4 - Mong chavo ("the beggar boy") - When a man tries to hit you,
quickly fall down to your knees and take hold of his trousers at the
cuffs. Then stand up and heave so that he falls on to his back. Kick
between his legs and move away.

5 - Sara na kali ("dark Sara") - Stretch the scarf between both
hands. If the enemy holds you by the collar and threatens to hit you
with his fist, move quickly. Hit between his legs with your right
fist and get down low. Turn so that you stand beside him, and noose
him from behind.

6 - Djelem ("I went") - Holding a cudgel, wait until the enemy tries
to wrest it from you. Catch his hand with your own and hit with the
cudgel across his knuckles. Keep hold of his hand then hit with the
cudgel across his elbow. Push him to the ground and move away
quickly.

7 - Me ham matto ("I am drunk") - Make the enemy believe that you are
a drunkard. Kick up between his legs and draw your scarf as he leans
forward. Noose around his neck and turn away, heaving so that he
falls over your leg.
